The
start of TPA came about in 1990 when a group of three gathered together
with our differing talents to form a company devoted to producing
technical documentation. We soon lost one of the founders to other
interests, but my other business partner and I kept the company
going. After a year in my basement we made the bold and un-nerving
move to a rented office. The first three years of business were
definitely challenging as we struggled to grow the company. I remember
our first income for the second quarter was $400.00 and we had to
split that two ways. This was not working out to be a get-rich-quick
method of gaining income.
In
1993, my business partner became ill and I didn't know if he was
even going to live. On top of that was the increasing pressure of
growing a business which is a large investment in time. Financial
struggles and just the day-to-day grind of life were becoming increasingly
more intense.
It
was at that point in time, that I knew I needed a change. I found
that change one Sunday morning at a new church we had been attending.
I clearly heard the presentation of the Gospel or the Good News
that Jesus Christ had died for me. Also that all my sins, which
I really didn’t know I had, could be forgiven. My acceptance
of Christ as my Savior on April 18, 1993 was the start of a long
and wonderful journey that continues to this day.
I
began attending a group called CBMC. CBMC stands for Christian Businessmen's
Connection which is a men's ministry with the mission to present
Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord to business and professional men
and to develop Christian businessmen to carry out the Great Commission.
I meet weekly with a diverse group who share a common desire to
deepen our connection with God, and along the way, we answer the
call to tell others about the completeness we've discovered through
Christ. I have been actively involved in this group since mid 1993.
It
was also in 1993 that I relinquished control of our company to a Higher
Power. God has continued to build TPA throughout the years. In late
summer of 2005 we bought 5000 square feet of a building that we
now call home. For over nine months we put a great deal of sweat
equity into designing and building the two floors of our current
office. We moved into the new facility in June of 2006. With almost
7500 square feet of usable space, we have come a long way from the
286 square foot room in my basement.
Being
a follower of Christ has done two things for me—it has caused
me to live a life that I hope others would like to emulate and it
has caused me to be more self conscience of the way I treat other
people. Right or wrong, my life has been enhanced over the past
19 years. I have had many ups and many downs, but I wouldn’t
change a thing.
